Your Bosch tablesaw goes 'BANG!' and emits a large cloud of absolutely foul smelling noxious blue smoke that drives everyone from the house and causes you to open every possible door and window in the middle of winter? |

I hate it when that happens! Hopefully no one suffered severe smoke inhalation. |

It's bad like when your TV does the same thing...it's a good thing. Time for an upgrade. |

Hmmm... It's on a contractor saw style which is basically a side mounted router. Can you fix those yourself? |

If you can get the smoke back in you should be ok. |

Or...the short answer is: "Yes". But no matter how you look at it, maybe not all that bad. |

The crappy part is that those little saws most likely aren't belt drive. I think it will make for a bit more work and a lot more money to repair. Sorry to hear that Med. Danny |

Danny Many smaller power tools are like toasters. Once they crap out, its not worth fixing, they are just toast. Hopefully it will turn out to be a cheap fix. Alex |

I imagine they'll need to replace the entire motor, so who knows what that'll run. Realized I'm addicted to my tablesaw and I'm dead in the water for new starts until it's fixed. Ah well... |

I thought those type of motors were brushed. No need for a starter capacitor as they are not inductance motors?? But the bang part and bad smell does sound like a capacitor. Sounds like a good excuse to upgrade to a sawstop. Mike |

If this is a 4100 model, it has a brushed motor. Seems that motor issues are a common problem. From what I could read, it looks like motor replacement is in ur future. ![]() http://www.ereplacementparts.com/bosch- ... 14496.html It's remarkable how much those motor internals look like the Bosch Colt laminate router. It's got to be bigger, but component wise, very similar. There may be a capacitor in the circuit, but I cannot find it |

I used a direct drive table saw for years and thought it worked well. I eventually moved up to a cabinet saw and the difference is beyond comparison. Direct drive saws tend to have a high level of bearing run out and the vibration of the motor is transferred to the saw blade. If its in your budget I highly recommend moving up to some sort of belt-drive table saw. Better cabinet saws have three belts to ensure quiet transfer of power to the blade, resulting in amazing cuts when used with a sharp and balanced blade. Your saw giving out might be one of the better things that has happened to you in the long run....then again, there is the $ factor...try giving up food or toothpaste for a few months and you'll have your dream saw paid for! |

For me it's not about money but about space. I'd love a nice cabinet saw but the Bosch has the right footprint, and honestly it's been a terrific machine, up til explosion... |
