| Post subject: | Funny Finish on Tele Build |
Hey all, I *think* I might have hung around here when I built my last tele several years ago...but for all intents and purposes I'm mostly new. I acquired a Squier Tele that I'm refinishing both the body and neck on. Down to my last few coats of finish; I'm using the amber-tinted nitro-in-a-can from stewmac and sanding w 600 grit in between coats. I applied a coat last night and this morning discovered some funny yellowish-white coloring on the body. Didn't notice this on the neck at all. It's a little hard to see in the picture because of the glare, but I was wondering if anyone had expereicend this before, or knew the cause? It's easy enough to sand down and apply another coat, but I'd like to find out what's up if possible, so it doesn't happen again. ![]() Thanks! Geoff |

Looks like blushing. Was it really humid when you sprayed, or was there water somewhere in your compressor or line? |

Yeah possibly - it was wet and rainy last night... no compressor or line, though I'm using the spray cans from stwemac. must have been the humidity I suppose? I can just sand down and refinish, right? |

Sounds like blush. You can mist it with retarder and that will take care of it. |

It could possibly be some sealer that was on the original body and did not get completely sanded off. It does look like blush though. |

Thanks guys - i sanded it down a bit, and reapplied a thin coat yesterday and the remaining blush disappeared quickly. I was a liitle worried after sanding, since the lacquer isn't yet thick enough to be really flat, and some of the blush was left in the valleys of the wood (the black bits in the photo), but it went away with the new lacquer coat. Thanks, and lesson learned: no spraying when it's raining outside. |
