Hey guys - I've been collecting supplies and tools for a while now with the intention of building guitars as a hobby. I spent some time with Peter Tsiorba when I lived in Portland but have recently moved to Oklahoma City. I thought that I would have time in OR to get into it, but med school made sure I didn't get much shop time. I really feel like a dork asking this, but I was wondering if there was somebody in the area that wouldn't mind letting me come by your shop... I've tried reading everything I can from books to forums to videos... I am definitely a visual learner and would really appreciate getting to check out some local shops. I've been too much of a wuss to try to bend my first set of sides or thickness a top/back with a hand plane... Anyway, we moved here for me to open up a Chiropractic clinic in Mustang and I'm being told 60-80 days on construction so I have free time right now and would really like to put it to good use. Thanks for the help! |

I'm a visual learner too, and have had great success using Robbie OBrian's excellent online courses. You can fill it out with YouTube videos by some talented luthiers, and LMIs/Robbie's Luthier duJour series found either on YouTube or on LMIs web site. Almost as good as being there! Finally, do some searching on this forum. There are many tutorials and documented builds and many excellent builder's gold to be mined! |
