What can I glue to the back of the inlay pieces to make it thicker to work with? I am using piano key covering and it's only at most 1/16 of a inch thick and brittle. Any Ideas. [uncle]

I usually just use wood veneer if I have a thin piece of shell or whatever that I want to match with some thicker pieces, although it can splinter off while sawing so there might be something better. But 1/16" is a pretty typical thickness for shell inlay, and ought to be fine for ivory as well. Just use very fine toothed saw blades. If it's brittle due to being full of micro-fractures, you could flood it with thin CA first.

That thin, multi-ply birch like they sell in hobby stores works well. http://www.hobbylinc.com/Hobby_and_Craft_Plywood

+1 for model plywood from hobby stores. I use 1/16th inch thick stuff a lot for exactly this purpose.

You want to glue it to something white if you want to retain a white color in the ivory.

You can also paint the inlay cavity white if you use the ivory at its present thickness. Gluing ivory to ivory with super glue also works well.
