I like to see my guitars getting the crap played out of them. Just don't be smashin' them. |

The only thing guitars seem to understand is force. They must therefore have the living crap played out of them. Great video. |

Being played hard is one thing but beating, scratching and brushes are another. There is a reason why all TEs guitars get that wear pattern. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=pl ... DT4YApWTgM |

Of course!! Who wouldn't want TE playing one of their guitars, even if it did end up with a hole in it! ![]() |

I wouldn't mind, and I don't think no builder should either. I consider ourselfs (luthiers) guitar players servants. We are at their service, to provide them with instruments they appreciate. Then it's up to them to treat their instument the way they want. When I build a guitar, it's not "MY" build, it's their's. That may sound silly, or insignificant, but it completely drives my building and business approches. |

Kinda reminds me of the title of The Crystals' song, "He Hit Me (and it Felt Like a Kiss)." |

If Pete Townsend wanted to smash one of mine every night I'd sell a lot more guitars than I intended. ![]() But if anyone who has mastered the instrument like TE ever plays one of mine...well...that'll be a proud day. |

I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm kinda tired of seeing people play acoustics like they are electrics. IMO that would sound a whole lot better on an appropriate hollowbody electric. The guy does play very well, if you like that style. |

Depends. If it was destroyed, that wouldn't bother me, but I've seen custom guitars that were abused by heat and dryness, which made the fret ends stick out, warped the backs, and cracked top. A builder would know the causes, but to a potential customer, the guitar might appear to be junk. TE shredding on one of mine, no problem! Pat |

Insanely fantastic. Dude could do that to my guitars all day long. Or at least until they burst into flames. |

Not your choice anyway. You could decide not to sell them another one ... TE's obviously great, but leaves me cold anyway. Just not what I'm looking for. |

I think I'd recommend him one of my rosewood tops ![]() ![]() The wear patterns caused by percussive players are kind of cool looking though, so in general I wouldn't mind. Maybe not such a good idea on cedar tops since they'd wear through pretty quick, but you could still reapply a hard finish regularly, or stick pickguard material on the highest wear areas. Smashing, however, is a crime against nature. Even cheapo guitars are still being manufactured by the millions, at the cost of the dwindling forests. Therefore, all the smashed ones could have gone to much better use by being given away. |

While my enthusiasm for Tommy's playing doesn't reach the heights that many hold him in, I did take my 75 year old father to see Tommy play here in Wichita 5 years ago. Dad was impressed, and as the hall reverberated with the echoes of Tommy's show-ending "Initiation", he remarked, "That boy did everything but set that guitar on fire!". |

That dude must have played that guitar a lot to produce the wear on it. Sorta like SR Vaughn's Strat. I think it's cool. What is not cool are the "relic" gutars that have artificial patterns copied from famous players instruments. (Fender's Eirc Clapton). Fake wear patterns are just lame and silly. Also, what's up with those jeans faded on the tops of the legs. Who rubs the top of their jeans? Mine get faded on the knees and bum areas. |

I started building when I realized I'd never play like that. Would be nice to somehow make a guitar-related living, but the jury's still out on that one. I will say that if I ever get a customer, he/she could do whatever they wanted with the instrument. I just hope they recommend me to someone else first, lol. |

Yup, in the event that anyone ever bought a guitar I built, they can do as they bloody well like with it. Also, +1 Tommy could do anything he liked to one of mine..... |

I'd have no problems with Tommy Emmanuel playing the hell out of one of my guitars, and I have no illusions of that ever happening. Sitting here in the back row, with my feet up on the seat in front of me, I'll say that hot instrumental blues isn't Tommy's strong suit. If you're okay with electric, I'd offer this for comparison: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7nNYD2LYYbQ . Freddie must have played this number a few thousand times. This night it caught fire. Too bad the audience didn't get it. Solo acoustic blues instrumental? Here's the benchmark:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JF3V06-ZxUc Certainly, Eric Clapton thought so:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mLXD2A9uXPg As for guitarists who abuse their guitars, heres one who is welcome to abuse mine:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dvk2e9F9-Qs |

I'm glad that Tommy plays a relatively cheap Maton guitar and only abuses it as necessary to get the sound he wants . A few well placed golpeodors might help the longevity of that instrument. No, I wouldn't like to see one of my instruments abused. Those who buy them can treat them as they see fit, but whether it's a cabinet or an instrument I prefer to not see my efforts trashed. |
