If it was me going, I'd take the time to go down to Brighton and The Acoustic Music Company. Not a builder, but lots of fine guitars, mostly American. Pat |

Denmark street... Not what it used to be, though. I'm sure some of our UK friends will fill us in |

Head to the museums. You won't see any SS but you will see a lot of Guitar history and some very fine craftsmanship. V & A and the collection at the RCM + a trip to the Ashmolean in Oxford if possible. |

Pat Definitely go there if you can. It's an amazing shop with guitars from all the big names, and lots of the smaller ones, in the handmade guitar world. It's great just to be able to compare them all and work out what type of sound you like and don't like - it gives you something to focus on in your building. |

Denmark street is the right area but not worth the visit, just a bunch of guitar shops selling the same old stuff I would take a train up North an book a shop visit with Roger Bucknall. http://www.fyldeguitars.com/contact.html And then take in some of the breathtaking scenery of the Lake District , followed by a visit to a local pub for local lamb shank, next to a open fire and a pint of real Cumbria Ale - heaven London to Penrith about 3 hours from London Euston John |

Hey thanks for the input friends. I don't think I'll be able to get out of The City but I'll keep my eyes open for your suggestions. Also going to Turkey. Might I find some interesting wood there? Inlay material? |

Now it is Santos.... ![]() yes, i know - i bought some bridge blanks... ![]() there is also http://www.akustikwood.com/indexen.htm and livane (no website ATM, but i guess they´re on facebook - IIRC they´re in Istanbul) If you could spend a trip from London, i´d try to get an appointment with Granaryguitars - only classical guitars, but you get to try them! bon voyage! |
