Just like the title says. Looking to make an all american wood guitar. Only place i can find that sells texas ebony online is Texas Woodcrafts but he usually doesnt have any pieces big enough for a fretboard. I would appreciate if anyone could direct me to a reliable source for some

I have contacted Texas Woodcraft a few times with no luck. Unfortunately TE is such a small, stringy tree it's very difficult to find good quality pieces for fretboards. I lucked up once at our local exotic wood supplier (Jeffries) and found a board that I was able to get two nice fretboards and a few bridge blanks. Every other time I have been there the wood was not instrument quality. You could try woodbarter.com. or lumberjocks.com. |

http://stores.ebay.com/rgvstingraymill please take into consideration that mills like this usually are suppliers for custom home building projects (mantels and such) and stuff we would consider major defects are considered character in such situations....i.e. be prepared to pay whatever for the actually usable luthier wood with potential for a lot of waste |

Most piece's that I have been able to find are most sized for turning or gun scales. I seen another post some where that guy was looking for pieces 34" by 8" wide and 5/4 thickness with no defects. I said good luck. Since there isn't high demand for this wood from guitar builders and furniture makers they mill it for where they sell it the most. That is turning. Most of the larger pieces I have found online are full of defects like checking , knots and lots of sapwood....Mike |
