Sorry if this has been discussed before. I'm debating with myself if I should pore fill the back and sides BEFORE installing binding and purfling. Possibly after the channel has been routed. Anyone else do this? Any reason not to do this? |

Joe: Not sure why you would want to but don't think its a good idea. You most likely get fill in your rebates resulting in more work or poor gluing and when you scrape the bindings you will most likely pull out or cut through the fill. If you are afraid of coloring light wood you can do things like seal before filling. Tom |

I just thought it might be easier but having read your replies I can see that it's not. OK, thanks, enough said. I think I'm going to try the egg white technique, but first those pesky bindings! On with it! Oh, one more question, is it good practice to seal the binding channel with shellac before gluing on the bindings? I'm using Titebond (or CA, haven't decided yet)? |

M I believe (I may be wrong) that Link was not saying Titbond is bad for bindings and CA is good. He was answering the question as if it is needed to seal with Shellac prior to gluing the bindings. With Titebond, your must not seal, while you must with CA. Just thought I'd point this out since it may be read the wrong way. |

Thanks for the answers. It's a good thing I asked, I had in my head that you should seal before using Titebond. I think I'll try fish glue, never used it before, should be interesting. |
