Post subject:  Body joint hump and fret leveling

So I just strung up my newest guitar. I've been doing adjustments over the last couple days. Unfortunately on this one, I got quite a hump at the neck/body joint. On the high E I have two bad notes because of a high fret. They are right at 13 and 14. I've been leveling them down but it's getting to a point where there's not a lot of fret left. The one way I can think of to fix this once and for all is to remove a bunch of the frets, sand down the fingerboard, then replace the frets. I really don't want to do that. Any suggestions of how I can fix this?

Learning to control that hump is all about controlling the body geometry.

It's good advice. Put the time in now to pull the frets and level the fingerboard, and you'll never regret it.

Controlling your hump comes with age and experience. Very few teenagers can control it.
Are we still talking about guitars?

The really funny thing is that I was looking at a couple of guitars I built previously and neither of them have that hump. I'm unfortunately relearning many things I already knew. Guess that's what happens when I take a year off from building to join the army and set up a shop where I go to school...

Thanks for the advice guys. I think I can level the frets down enough, but I want to do it right. Couple more questions. When I did the frets I used titebond when I installed them. Should I heat them when I try and pull them? Thanks again

Yup, heat them. Otherwise the tangs will pull up the fretboard on each side, possibly even if you beveled the top of the slot.
