Post subject:  5 String Acoustic Bass

I've had a request for a 5 string acoustic bass. Since most of the time it will be played through an amplifier, the client says the priority should be on making it a size that is not too difficult to hold and for which a case will be available.

I've been looking around and GAL Plan #13 ( http://www.luth.org/plans/instrument_plans.html#harp ) seems to fit the bill but I haven't been able to find much about it. Is anyone familiar with this guitar? Any pictures or links to more information other than the little blurb at the GAL site?

Thanks,
Pat

Pat, be sure to read up on the Tinozza http://liutaiomottola.com/instruments/Tinozza.htm. Mottola gives lots of info based on his research on ABG's...might be helpful to you. He has designed this larger than other ABGs but claims it is still playable. Some people have built the Tinozza with steel instead of orchestral strings. I am presently working on one myself.
