I realize that this post is probably out of place here, but it is more likely go get more answers and opinions here. My friend brought me a cheapo Squier with two humbucking pickups and a 3 way switch. He can't exactly tell me whenn the humming noise started, but he said it has been a while. this being the first experience and an opportunity for me to learn I opened it up, used a multimeter to check the connectivity of all the ground and everything was fine. there is weak shielding (aluminum) in the cavity, but i didn't expect so much hum from a 2 humbucker guitar. What would cause this humming sound? I'm not electrician but maybe some instrument repair professionalism can chip in
more details: the hum is loud in the number 1 and 3 position (when only bridge or only neck pickup is selected)
