Any thoughts on an optimal shape for a baritone? Dread? Jumbo? Small Jumbo? Thanks in advance Steve |

I had a Webber Roundbody which is much like an OM with a wider lower bout, similar to a Jumbo but not as deep. It was great but the highs didn't exactly glisten. I'm building my own replacement for it with many specs the same but I'm using my own OM shape with hopes of better highs (assuming I get the bracing right). |

My fan fret Bari was on a full jumbo body with a Manzer wedge and the 28" scale was on a small jumbo body similar to the Martin J/M shape also with a wedge body. I am more than pleased with both results, I voiced the fan fret a little tighter as I was afraid of a boomy sound but the 28" was voiced similar to my 25.4" scale guitars on the same body. Fred |

Steve, like all guitars, the shape/size/volume affect its presentation. I don't care who you are, a dreadnaught is going to sound like a dreadnaught -- its inescapable. Decide what kind of presentation you want, choose that body, and design your bracing to shape the sound accordingly. I've always built mine on a jumbo body, but there are successful baritones that were built on dreadnaught bodies. Dealers choice. |
