Post subject:  How to make fretting easier?

hello... i want to know how to make fretting on classical guitar easier, because when i try an expensive guitar it is very easy to do fretting when using barre technique... but when i'm using the cheap one, it's very hard to press all strings using the index finger. do you have a solution to make fretting easier? i mean how about the guitar construction? is it any difference between the guitar that easy to fret and hard to fret?

Sorry 4 my poor English !!! :P
Thx 4 ur answers...

Sounds like the action is too high on the cheap guitar.
I will let someone more experienced in setup to explain how to test and alter the action.

Most classical guitars don't have a radius on the fretboard and that can make a big difference. It won't hurt to have it set up , a good set up can make the guitar play at its best.

Martin, I agree that a professional set-up will help you. This assumes that there are no other problems with the guitar. By that, I mean if the neck is not bowed upward, if it doesn't need a neck re-set, and if the top hasn't bellied upwards at the bridge. A guitar technician can check those items for you. If all is well, then a proper adjustment at the nut and perhaps the bridge saddle can help you. Or, if you post photos of those areas of the guitar, many forum members can advise you.

apa kabar! sorry at the moment that is all the bahasa i can remember. i spent a bit of time in kalimantan but that was over 10 years ago.

like others here have said if you can get a guitar technician to look over the guitar that will help a great deal.

with out seeing the guitar my first guess would be that the nut is too tall and that is creating too much space between the strings and the frets. if that is the case it should be something you can fix yourself by filing the bottom of the nut down. do it slowly and keep putting the stings back on to check your progress. if the problem is a bowed neck that is a much more difficult fix with a classical and probably best take it to a repair person.

good luck! and like cphanna said, post photos here, many folks will be happy to help

Even if the fretboard is perfect you still need strength in your hand and fingers and muscle memory. Practice, practice, practice and squeeze a tennis ball ~500 times/day with your fretting hand. It will happen.
