Well I have finally completed my first scratch build guitar. bliss It's a waterfall bubinga dreadnought with curly maple bindings, bubinga bridge, fretboard and headstock veneers, and triple laminate african mahogany/maple neck. Gold Gotoh tuners finish off the headstock and bone with abalone dot bridge pins, end pin, strap pin and nut and saddle finish off the rest of the guitar. A friend of mine took these pictures for my soon-to-be-finished website. I thought everyone would like to see how the finished product turned out!

*Note to self - next time I take pictures of the bridge, make sure the pins are all the way in! Lmao.

My wenge is almost done as well. I'm sanding the finish done and will have it buffed out and together in a couple of weeks. I'll post some pics of that guitar too once I'm finished.

I hope you like the pics!

Great work Rob. Looks a lot nicer than my first #1.

Stop by my shop if you ever feel like making a trip to Goderich.

Simply outstanding; the fact that it's your first scratch build makes it all the more impressive. The pictures are great, also.

I think it's outstanding, too! Man, my first scratch build (well... they've all been scratch builds) was no where near this level. You have every right to be proud, and I am feeling pretty inspired by your work right now.
Well done, my friend!

Incredible first build. I am building my first and really had no intention of it coming in at this level of craftsmanship. Truely impressive.

My one criticism is not about craftsmanship but about the term Waterfall bubinga. Not sure that I completely agree with it being classified as waterfall. No doubt it has some great figure and I absolutely love bubinga. I just am not sure it is waterfall.

The binding works great with the laminated neck. Nice guitar.

Very nice! I keep going hot and cold on bubinga - have a fair amount of it, not built with it yet - but this is inspiring me to give it a much closer look again!

Minor nitpick: I would call the grain pattern on the bubinga quilt or flame, have quite a bit of raw lumber with a very similar figure to it. Waterfall grain, to my mind, refers to waviness in the grain itself. Your set is very straight grained. Waterfall set I got from BobC about 8 years back looks like this:

I'm still scared to bend it. Can't find SuperSoft in Europe.

Lovely guitar!
I've heard that wood referred to as "beeswing bubinga".
