So I have a small crack in my headstock MOP logo. Is there an easy way to fill this? |

MOP dust and CA but you will still see it. It's hard to hide cracks in MOP. |

I have a fairly intricate logo and it sometimes cracks when I'm cutting it. If the break is clean I find that I get pretty good results gluing it back together with CA before I install it in the headstock. If done right I find the break is close to invisible after it is installed. However if the break is not clean, or I loose a small chip of the MOP than I just cut another one. It is a pain taking the extra time, but otherwise every time you see the guitar you will not be happy knowing that it would look better if you had of recut the logo. One I do to prevent breaks when cutting is to glue the shell blank to a veneer backing before cutting (I use CA for this). It helps a lot. Then I soak the whole thing in a small jar a acetone to get the veneer backing of the shell. Josh |

Just curious when did it break after you glued it in or before? |

When I was pressing in the dust filled epoxy...didn't really notice it until later. Rookie mistake. |

Josh said it all, pretty much. A super clean break can be put back together and it doesn't show much (there are lines in some MOP to begin with) but there's nothing that can be done about even the tiniest gap, the material is too reflective and chatoyant to fill it without it being obvious. |

Just for interest sake, I've had headstock MOP inlays crack after inlaying and some time has passed. No opening, just a crack line through the pearl. I put it down to wood movement. I don't bother with it and it is hardly noticeable. Tom |

I went with the no regret solution. Rout out and replace. |
