Chris, there is a good sharpener here in Charlotte. Charlotte Saw and Knife. Reasonable pricing and excellent work. They do router bits, saw and bandsaw blades (longer than 80" only, I think) and hand tool blades. Not high tech but an operation that's been in business for over 80 years. Never asked them about fret saw blades, but I don't see why not if you give them the specs. The guy that runs the place is a Gibson collector. Loves guitars. http://charlottesaw.com Their website says if you have custom needs they will try to accommodate. |

Circular saw blades are pretty easy to sharpen yourself using a triangular file. |

I have had mine resharpened at a local saw shop. The Stew Mac blades are hollow ground, rather than having set teeth. Even so, I think you would really have to cut a lot off to significantly reduce the kerf. |

please do a test run with any person/business you choose to sharpen a blade...the last time I had a blade sharpened they: 1) used one of those vibrating etchers to etch the company name into the plate (it warped the plate a tad) 2) did NOT follow the original tooth configuration from Freud (an LU-85) and took off way too much material because of that 3) burned the teeth 4) wasn't a very good sharpening job and didn't last for any real period of time... basically they ruined the blade... |

My dad and brothers have largish cabinet/custom furniture shops and have had varying degrees of success with local sharpening. Forrest saw blades offer saw sharpening and they have used them for years now with great results. I'm talking sending a dozen blades off at one time. Our local woodcraft has a guy in Oak Ridge I tried and my blade came back actually better than new. |

I sharpened some fret saw blades (the hand held one, not the tablesaw blade) with a dremel grinding wheel... same way you would sharpen a bandsaw blade. |

I use Forrest as well and highly recommend their sharpening service. As for fret saws, this is one reason I use a handsaw. I can sharpen it any time I need in about 5-10 minutes. |
