Hey all, I have access to a large amount of these 12-16/4 beams, and was considering selling some neck blanks to offset my costs. The wood comes from the co-op started by Bob Taylor and crew, and this container was passed up en masse by Taylor's grader. It made its way to the shop of master chair maker, Brian Boggs, who is also a partner in the co-op. Granted, I had to do a little digging to find the good quarter sawn stuff, but there's plenty in there. What's more, there's two distinct "flavors" -- the lower-density, light-colored stuff, and the much denser, dark cinnamon type. I want to provide these at a fair cost to OLF members over in the classified, and am still debating cost, but I'm thinking somewhere around $80 for two necks' worth. First of all, does that seem like a fair price, and second, is anyone interested? Btw, the blank pictured is four blanks worth. Ken ![]() ![]() Ken Jones Mountain Song Guitars |

Sounds very fair to me, especially for the darker wood. I just don't find that stuff around very often anymore. |

Ken - sounds good to me. I would be interested in a couple of the darker, denser ones if well-quartered. |

The darker stuff is smaller, but I think I can still get 3 x 4 x 23 3/4" clear, so you can get two blanks from each stick. ![]() Ken Jones Mountain Song Guitars |

The grain isn't vertical, but I think still qualifies as quarter sawn. Funny, I thought folks would be more interested in the lighter stuff due to neck weight issues. I'll be milling and ripping them probably tomorrow, so I'll put up pics of the finished "product". Ken Jones Mountain Song Guitars |

Maybe. Are you listing them in the Classifieds? Any insight on why the blocks were rejected by Taylor? |

With Honduras getting harder and harder to get, wouldn't it be so much less wasteful to turn these into 20-22mm thick pieces and make scarf/stackheel necks? It looks like you could get 4 necks instead of 2 out of each. |

Sorry for my delay in responding -- been bogged down in repairs here lately. But, wow, there's a lot of interest out there! I wanted to plane the surfaces of the boards to check for defects, bug holes, etc, and sure enough, found some. Which could be why the container got passed on by Taylor. That's not to say there's not some great wood in there, but it will require some pretty careful picking to find the best boards. Also, much of what's in the container is flatsawn or rift, which can work for necks, too, but decreases yield. So out of a hypothetical yield of 12 light and 16 heavy/dark neck blanks, I'm left with realistically, 10 light and 10 heavy after working around bug holes to find the sweet spots. I'll prob keep four each, so the upshot is I'll only have a dozen or so to sell from this batch, but would gladly go get more. I don't want another part-time job, but I could see doing a few batches to help fund a new resaw... Or spraybooth... ![]() ![]() Ken Jones Mountain Song Guitars |

I do find uses for pretty much all of my thick scrap in the form of jigs, brace stock, sculpture media, etc. Ken Jones Mountain Song Guitars |
