Finishing up two OMs. The first has been dialed in and was boxed up and shipped to its new owner in Pensacola today. Yeah!! The sun was shining in through the windows last night, so I shot a bunch of pix before boxing it up, and I thought I would share a few.

Claro walnut with Italian spruce top, high curl koa rosette, bindings, and backstrap, Macassar Ebony fingerboard and bridge. Purflings are Osage Orange and Paua Zipflex. Finish is EM6000. Pickup is LR Baggs Lyric. Scale is 25.0"

Guitar was built for very light gauge strings, low E is a 40.

Enjoy and thanks for looking.

Ken

Very nice! What's the binding on the heel cap?

This is some incredible work. Did you just tape-off the top and sides to stain the maple without staining the spruce/walnut?

Outstanding Ken. A real beauty. Love the bindings and rosette. That's some killer koa!

fantastic binding. I thought it was either snakewood or some kind of fake tortoise shell. Very tight detailing.

Classy! Any long term data to report on EM6000? Especially necks.

Thanks everyone for the kind words!

Raymond, the binding on the heel cap and backstrap is ebony.

Alex, when I stained the mahogany neck, I masked only the bindings. The rosewood lams were left exposed. I porefilled with zpoxy after staining.

Robbie, I only had the guitar plugged in long enough to make sure the pickup worked. I was running it through a Fishman SA220, and it sounded pretty transparent, but I would have needed a bunch more time with it to really get a feel for the pickup. Very easy installation, though.

Terence, I've been using Target's coatings since a few years before EM6000 came out. I don't play my guitars under hot lights night after night, and I don't believe any of my customers do either. Given that, the finish on the necks is holding up remarkably well. I have had zero complaints and given how well this finish is working for me, I will continue to use it for the forseeable future.

Ken - I really like the combination of woods on that one! Did you make the B - Osage - B purfling? If so, is the black an ebony veneer? And, if you bought it, can you share the source?

Thanks again! Steve, yes I made the Osage purflings. The black is fiber. But I have purchased thin black dyed veneers from both LMI and Constatines in the past.
