Looks great to me. At first I thought you had put the wrong picture up last, but then I saw it only had 4 tuning peg holes. For some reason it looks like a full size guitar!

Potholder? Do you mean the blowtorch? Yea the uke looks like a guitar sometimes... and I build them to give myself stuff to do between work and to hone my guitarmaking skills without costing too much... |

Top is Sitka spruce, I think. It's pretty light (color wise) but has some streaking. I plan to (assuming I get accepted to Lincoln College's guitarmaking course) keep building until my stash runs out... but I still need a bunch of expensive purfling and brace wood, not to mention tuners. No idea what to do with all the guitars left over too. |

Yea, I was kinda looking at that, someone on Taiwan's PCHome sells them at around 15 dollars a set and I'll use it if it's not going to a buyer. I wish I have a music shop that moves high end instruments to consign stuff to in Taiwan, but I have never seen such a shop. The popular ones I've seen moves guitar shaped objects quickly but the expensive stuff never moves. I think most Asians who buys good instruments don't go to music shops. |

In picture two, you have two colorful square cloth objects. Those are pot holders. I figured you used those to hold the wood while bending. |

Did it ever occur to you that on the other side of the world those could be used for something else. Um, a little political correctness my friend. Ha Ha. Looks good Ti. I'm a long ways away but from here it looks like you could lighten up on the bracing on the jumbo. The uke looks awesome. Do you have a home for it? Cheers, Danny |

Not really... I can't even manage to sell ONE instrument, and also the uke seems to have some knocking sound when I tap the back, and I can't trace it at all... Looked inside and there are no sign of anything loose so I don't know what it is. In any case it probably won't be sold. As for the jumbo brace, I will tone shape it once everything is done... I do not know how jumbos are supposed to be braced so I guess I kinda kept everything large for now. I will taper the brace and shave off a considerable amount of material during the voicing process. The SJ-300 I copied this shape off of had really boomy voice that sounds way too bassy and I thought I should retain some treble to balance the instrument a bit. Do you have any suggestion as to how I should voice the instrument? I tap the heck out of it during every step of the process but I really don't know what I am looking for... Here are more progress pics. |
