Is it really necessary to install an end pin in a steel string? I guess it's customary, but if you don't intend to stand up and use a strap... Another thing is if you ever intend to install a pickup, it would be easier to drill to the appropriate size rather than going from a holed that was drilled for an end pin... Just wondering what folks think. Should I go ahead an put in that end pin? Thanks, Steve |

Personally I don't think an endpin is a must. Without it, it gives the owner the ability to "customize" their guitar which many like to do. And you save a few bucks in the process ![]() |

Stephen: I have seen guitars without and that OK with me, but one must realize that someone else who gets the guitar might want something to use for a strap. I stopped using tapered end pins a number of years back when someone did a DIY pick-up installation on one of my guitars. Did not go too well, so from then on I decided to just use pick-up jacks in all my guitars. I think there is less likely to be as much damage from a drop as compared to tapered pin. Tom |

its nice to equip it with a hard point to rest on if it needs to be set down without a stand being handy, or a case....which is 99.9% of the time for me |

On a "spec" instrument, I don't install strap pins. When the instrument sells, I'll install pins, (at no charge) if the customer wants them. |
