This just started happening the other day. I've had this for a few years and have not had any problems. Any ideas on what might be going on? This was a brand new piece of sandpaper two passes ago. The paper overlapped and it tore just at the attachment point.

Thanks.

Can't remember wher I got it. There is no name on the paper. It's an X weight aluminum oxide. Pretty sure I got it from an OLF member recommended source ;/

Something similar happens to me when I put on a new roll. I have found it is because the paper is not tight enough and is slipping, because it is not tucked in to the clip as far as possible. It takes me a few times of running the drum, finding which clip is not tight enough, adjusting, and running again. When it seems to be tight enough, I start running scrap wood through to see if there is anymore slippage.

Some roll abrasives seem to stretch when used and require periodic re-tightening. I've had that happen with sanding belt as well. I listen to my drum sander and it sounds a little different when the abrasive needs to be re-secured.
