Post subject: | X-brace splay |
I'm coaching three students through building individual guitars, which they sourced through LMI, so we could get certain steps 'serviced' and thus fit the build into the time period we have available. On one of the tops the soundhole placement has forced me to splay the x-brace moreso than I normally would, so as to get the brace out far enough out under the 'wings' of the bridge. It's splayed 105 degrees. Normally I go only around 97-98 degrees. I don't think that this will be an issue, as long as I brace the lower bout accordingly, and account for all the extra open space. I may leave the x-braces a bit taller than I normally would as well. Can anyone see any issues with proceeding with this design? Any recommendations in order to adjust for the change? Thanks for any input or ideas, Ken |

BTW, this is an OM-style guitar, slightly longer and more rounded at the neck and tail block area. |

You could angle the tone bars a little more perpendicular to the center line to add some stiffness to the lower bout. (but not too much) |
