Post subject:  Martin purfling question

I am restoring a 1975 D-28 and I don“t know which purfling is the appropriate type/size. Could somebody point me in the right direction? Preferably something as close to original as possible. Where can I get it?

Thank you!
Sondre

The Guitar Makers Connection at Martin can supply you with just what you need.
You can order top or back purfling "sets" or individual strips from them.
Top purfling for a 1975 D-28 would consist of:

.0325" thin black/white
.025" black
.065" wide black/white
.0625" white Boltaron binding

I recommend you call the main number for the factory, ask for the Guitar Maker's Connection, and talk to Gail or Liz about what you need.

Also John Arnold and John Hall are other good sources of info re: Martin guitars.

Note that Martin calls all of this plastic trim 'binding'. In Martin-speak, only wood strips are called 'purfling'.
