Post subject:  Arizona luthiers?

Hi everybody! I'm just dipping my toes in the guitar building waters and was wondering if there are any others on here from Arizona?

Bump. I'm in CA, but I think there are some AZ members who might have missed this.

Callyrox is near Phoenix, she builds beautiful classical instruments. Nice lady too!

Cool! I thought I was alone there for a bit. Does anyone know if theres any kind of local Luthier's guild or something to that effect? I know we have the Roberto Venn school out here so I thought there might be a local group but haven't come across anything. I'm really new to this. Still working on number one.

I'm outside Phoenix in Apache Junction, but I'm giving up building, if I can just get this last guitar finished. There is or was a group that I used to have information about, but I can't find the information. You can check out azfinewoodworkers.org I know that a couple of luthiers have shown their work when they have had a show of members work in the past. They sometimes have meetings at Timber Woodworking. Hope that helps, Wendy

Sorry to see you giving up building callyrox. That is for the info. I'll look them up.

I'll also add that I'm pretty much in the middle of Phoenix. Just north of downtown.

Wish we did have a gathering. I am a bit jealous of the New Englanders and the LINT! Wendy, sorry to hear you're quitting building. Guess I will too when the money runs out laughing6-hehe

I did a 15 year sentence in PHX (3rd ave and Camelback) before we moved to the mother land.
Mike Dotson is north of town in the Cave Creek area.
Jason Kostal is south of town in Chandler/Queen Creek. He was Ervin's apprentice and builds the most impeccable guitars I've ever seen (Ervin's included). He just got hit by a bus earlier this week so he's laid up for a good while with lots of broken bones.

Paul mis-remembers my location, but only slightly. ;) I'm in what used to be called N. Phx but now is fairly central (32nd St and Shea near the 51).
We used to have a fairly active luthiers group here but it's pretty much dissolved, particularly with George Leach of the Phx Guitar Co. moving to CA a few months back. I only build sporadically now and it's all pretty much electrics with some resonators tossed in.

That's terrible news about Jason, I did some shirts for him when he worked at RV but haven't seen him in quite a while. I hope he has a fast recovery.
