As of this morning I am swamped with ads on the board. On the main index page as well as sandwiched between replies in individual discussions.

Is this a problem with my machine or are others seeing this?

Nothing here, but I have so many blockers running I can't get to desired content some of the time.

Why are there 5 trackers running on this page?

You must have accidentally downloaded and installed something. I had a similar problem. No matter what page I went to there would be ads on the sides.

If you are running Windows, the Add/Remove programs app will tell you when each program was added so you may be able to find it easier.

The worst case is you could do a system restore to a previous date before this started happening.

Yes there are some malicious software programs that download and attach themselves to your browser, and redo all your stuff, change your homepage, set a new default search engine that is designed to display paying advertisers instead of genuine results, and stuff banner ads everywhere it can.

Usually they come bundled with something else you're downloading, such as a YouTube video download program.

You have to read carefully, as they are counting on you to check "agree" to every grey screen that pops up without reading it like we've been trained to do so that you are actually giving them permission to make changes.

If you're downloading something and you see a box that says "make MegaAdGenerator you're home page?" or "set Default Browser to SpamPlus?" you have to uncheck it or click no.

Many times they embed themselves and reprogram your browser so that you can't change your default browser or homepage back.

Nasty things!

You may be lucky and be able to go into the browser to shut off add-ons (IE Tools -> manage add ons) Chrome I think you hit the settings button upper right three horizontal lines Tool -> extensions. In either case there are few extension that are needed in a modern browser, you should be able to recognize the valid ones. In the settings above they are easy to disable. Tool bars, or now special media viewers seem to be the worst now.

Steve,

I've used this site several times to fix problems like yours...... most of the programs have a free and pay side...... run the free stuff first and I think it will solve your problems......... ( took me forever to find something that actually worked....) Work through at least the 3rd program.

Blessings,

Kevin

Thanks everyone. I was on the road all day yesterday but now it's time to go on the attack! Guess I'll stick with Tapatalk until I get it sorted.

Google "AdBlock" ... then download ... it's free, and works a treat, but the originator is always appreciative of a small donation ..

Adblock plus was my first download - I've got it on my other machines but somehow missed this one, it's a great download. That seems to have fixed Google plus but Firefox still has some crap on it. If I can't fix Firefox with some other downloads then I'll just do a restore.
