I'm trying radial Purfling for the first time and thought I'd share. It's zebra wood. It's working out pretty good so far... If I don't bugger it up...

In this scheme, is the side facing up end grain or side grain?

Looks good! When I did it, I just made up a log and cut it into strips, then bent them like other purfs.

Ed, it's side facing not end grain facing up. Waddy, I just cut thin strips of the zebra the same width of the none-stick strip, 0.060". The strips are laid in like abalone Purfling.

Where did the material come from? Extra backs? Extra sides?

I found a nice thin piece at Woodcraft. I brought the thickness down on my jet10-20. Then I used my fret slotting jig to cut the strips...

Looking good. That should really pop with some finish on it

I like the look. Clever to cut them with a fret saw.

So basically you are cutting off strips in the same way as if you were trimming a set of sides at the end block to fit in the mold?

Nice! Thanks for the reminder Steve that I have to give that one a try. Some finished pics would be nice to see.

Looks like you got the basic idea. Next thing you know you will be making your own purfling! [:Y:]

Steve, looks great; should go well with that cedar top.
