| Post subject: | Dealing with voids in pommele/quilted sapele? |
Curious as to whether or not anybody's tackled a build with one of the sets of the heavily quilted sapele that has the veining with voids. The wood is so beautiful it deserves to be used, but the voids are often significant enough that a dust/glue fill might be a little tough...though a matched plug is impossible. I know I've seen people just leave wormholes unfilled in Brazilian guitars, but voids like these would probably be even more jarring visually. Any thoughts? I've attached a picture of an example set. |

Harmonist34; I really don't have a solution to your problem. After viewing the wood I would do everything possible to use it. Even unfixed it would be beautiful |

Worm holes and smaller voids don't bother me at all. Think it's part of the charm of some woods. The set you showed is really nice. I'd use it without hesitation and not worry with the voids I saw. Just my opinion. |

I'd leave them unfilled. But if you really want a flat surface, fill them with clear epoxy so you can still see "into" them. |

Even large voids can be filled with ca and dust (and a lot of patients). |

I built a guitar with that kind of Sapele, not as bad, but the thing eventually cracked here and there (epoxy fill). Gave it to a friend that owns nothing but cracked guitars. Want some more? |
