For what it's worth--

I use the Robosander a lot for various steps in the building process and it's always been tough for me to change sleeves, especially getting the new one to slide on.

I found that if I stick the drum in a plastic bag and stick it in the freezer or outside in a snowdrift for 6-10 minutes the rubber contracts enough that the new sleeve slides on easily.

Err, aren't you supposed to just undo one of the bolts to relax the pressure on the sleeve so it can easily slide off?

I'm not that stupid, I've been using mine for 10 years. This is with the bolts loose and the bearing off. I have always found the new sleeves very tough to slide on, a very tight fit on mine. Even the old ones are hard to slide off. Maybe yours are different.

Nice trick Terence, thanks. Mine have also always been a PITA to get off and on.

Yeah, mine works as easily as any other spindle sander. Slips right off with just a trace of friction.

Yeah, my oscillating spindle sander changes out easy. The drill press ones, not so easy.

Baby powder before putting the sleeve on can help ease removal.

Have 3 robosanders and use talcum powder. The freezer trick and talcum doesn/t work on the 1/2 in spindle sander on my comm spindle sander as it is metal sleeve , and have to cut it with a knife always a PITA , the other 3 sizes, slide easily off the rubber

Great idea. I think I will try the freezer option. If I wait for a snowdrift here in south Alabama, I'll be to old to sand by the time I get it changed. :)

I'll have to try the talcum powder too.

I have been using a Robosander for a short time, it's a great tool. I'll put mine in the deep freeze. Thanks for the tip Terence

Great tip! Just went through half a container of Vaseline to change a set of 9 sleeves on our spindle sander drums

I just loosen the bolt and they come right off

Loosen the nut, and leave it for a while so that the rubber can relax back to a cylindrical shape.
