Hi All, Well, I've been really busy this year with the starting up of the Australian Guitar Making School on the Central Coast. Don't worry, this isn't a plug just a proud teacher moment. Below is one of the first student guitars nearly finished. Back and sides - Northern Silky Oak Bindings - Jarrah Neck - Brazilian Mahogany Top - Engelmann Spruce Zipflex (cheating? well at least it worked!) Attachment: tony1_sml.jpg Back and sides looking good so far. Attachment: tony2_sml.jpg Nice tight joins Attachment: tony3_sml.jpg

I've got to say that's one of the most unusual back and side sets I have ever seen (but I haven't seen nearly as many as some of you guys). I like it! Further, I think you did excellent justice to it with your combination of woods and trims. This next part is just my personal opinion and you know what those are worth: If you build with similar material again, I think I'd like to see a binding strip running up the cutaway side between top and back to separate that cool oak from the neck. But, that's just me. Don't take that as a criticism. I don't mean it that way. I'm just expressing my personal taste here, and who can account for my personal taste? Very nicely done! |

Another student guitar finished. They are starting to complete some really great sounding guitars. I am really happy with the standard they are achieving on parts like the neck join etc. I know it is a funny thing to get excited about but for first time builders it is really satisfying to see them getting accurate results. Nice! I'm on number 11 and still can't get my binding to fit as well as on these two examples. |
