Post subject: | Wood identification |
Hello ......any help and opinions here are appreciated. This is a guitar that was trashed and...since I found all the parts, I decided to restore it. No wood was visible (just a black, oxidized mess) when I started and, after cleaning, this is what turned up. I talked to the original builder, (well known at this point in time), and he could not remember what the wood he built with was. ( it was 18-20 years ago, after all). I will be returning this guitar to him after I am fully done with the restoration and have an idea of my own what the wood is but with all the experience on here I'd like to get other opinions. Thanks in advance. |

The sides look a bit like Koa in the photo. Is that a 6 piece back? |

Yes, it is a six piece back. With maple insert between each piece.I don't know why but the pieces are beautifully matched. |

Can't tell what wood it is from the photos but it does appear to be a lefty strung as a righty. The bass strings on this guitar are on the narrower side of the bridge, right? |

Yes, the bass is strung to the narrow end..however the bracing pattern of the top is for a regular right handed guitar. I am trying to leave the guitar exactly as the builder made it himself. |
