2 pieces of wood here... one of them is BRW the other IRW. Guess which one's which.

The BRW smells really nice, basically exactly like the African Blackwood that I had.

Oh, by the way, if that Brazilian is thick enough for bridges I'll have some please.

No, it's tapered in thickness... it's enough for a small headplate though

That would make me suspicious.

Why? BRW doesn't smell like african blackwood? Both have a scent, I am sure its not the same but its similar enough...

That's pretty obvious to me that the BRW is on the right.....the grain lines of both BRW and EIR are pretty easy give aways with these samples...

Yea, but I've seen EIRW that has the exact same grain pattern

In my experience they don't smell alike at all.

It does look like BR, but if it smells exactly like AB and it possibly looks exactly like IR, what makes you think it's BR?

No, the scent on this one is MUCH stronger than AB. AB has a distinctive scent like this one but very subtle, goes away as soon as you stop sanding it or cutting it (and it has to be a burning cut in order for the smell to be more noticeable). This piece on the other hand the smell is a lot more pervasive. My hand started smelling like it just holding it for a couple of minutes, the room it's in actually started smelling of the wood just being in it (very subtle but it's there). Also, I didn't show the other side (because I didn't want to give things away) but the wood was resawn halfway by someone, and the top piece removed. The uncut portion of the wood has oxidation and it's very orange. EIRW never oxidizes in this manner (it just turns gray)

AB is completely different... it's black for one thing, and has a purplish hue rather than an orange hue.

I can see why the tree gets cut down for making perfume... the stuff smells real nice. A lot nicer than most woods I have worked with.

Now my mind bender is telling me to bite his shiny metal...

It still is a mind bender. What would be a mind blaster is if you would have bought some BRW only to find it was ER.

It would be the nicest EIRW I ever smelled for sure... known EIR smells bad to me.
