Does anyone use purpleheart for fretboards? I found a couple of boards at a local hardwood supplier and one looks to be "quartersawn" , grain almost vertical. I know its a very hard wood and may be "sappy", but looks like it would look nice for fretboards. Any info would be appreciated. |

I've used for fretboards for dulcimers. It can look nice with the right wood combinations. Some purpleheart retains the purple color for years, and some seems to eventually turn brown. (a light sanding should renew the purple color) |

yes, Ive seen it used on dobros also. I'm building my 4th steel string dreadnaught. The board I found would supply me with blanks for fretboards for several years. I am mostly concerned about resawing it, Its a 1 x 8 x 10 for about $70. |

I/ve used it for bindings , it turns brown on exposure to light . I have some 1/4 sawn stock and would not hesitate to use it for ukes.etc. |
