I was talking to Andy Birko, and he suggested I track down a dye that will stain shell (where it has been scored)

Does anybody know what the name of this stuff is?

Never used it for that but I'm pretty sure blackened epoxy would do the trick.

You mean for adding the dark lines to engraved shell? Its usually just india ink or other ink. Even a black crayon will work if you cover it with finish

I think you're after Grit Laskin's filler. It's sold by LMI here:

Yes, that's it. Laskins filler. Is it compatible with water based finishes?
