On the M.D.Payne, MJ when you draw the E string positions on the plan, from the nut 1/8" from the edge on center, to the peg hole on the bridge the string is 3/16 on center at the 14th fret. Which means the E's are not parallel to the outer edge of the FB. I suppose it could be the irregularity of the paper plan, but my question is: Is that OK or should I make it parallel. M |

Most folks usually do it similar to the drawing.......this makes some extra allowance for string bending. I also think it happens to look better from a design point of view. But there is nothing cast in steel. If you are building for someone ....................talk to them. Tom |

I do mine just about what you plans show. I got my measurements from the Cumpiano book. |

Yes, agree with the other replies. When you play in the higher positions, it's easier to slip the string over the edge of the FB (try it) When your fretting finger is closer to the nut, it requires more pull/push to do this. |
