Has anyone ever pulled off a sound hole side truss rod adjustment with a cantilevered (raised) fingerboard? Would be interested to see pics if you have or know of someone who has. |

I did but suspect it is not what you're looking for. It was a Doolin type adjustable neck so cantilever was just fret board on two 1/4" graphite rods halfway buried in the fretboard and cantilevered over the top. I used an Allied rod. For a cantilever supported by a wood neck extension under the fret board tongue I would think you could just extend the truss rod adjust channel as needed; possibly might need a longer Allen wrench. |

The only way I can think of doing it is to do something like Stew-Mac's new low profile rod, and inset it far enough that it's not going to fail which means having the rod end almost at the body, as you'll need the 3/8" depth for the rod plus at least .100" meat under the rod at its end. You'll have a hole in the end of the neck at the soundhole and you'll want to modify an allen wrench for adjustment so you can use the long end to go into the neck and the short end welded to a handle to move it. |
