Sprayed nitro once on Maple board.
Huge mess.
I use wipe-on Poly or Truoil.

Not done unless as Dan says it's a maple board or neck on say a Fender or other electric. There have been a few acoustics from small builders with maple boards that may have been finished but beyond this it's a rare exception. If using a maple board finishing is a good idea although a PITA big time.... Maple retains and shows dirt like there is no tomorrow....

Don't know if you guys CP have it on the other side of the pond but we like "Howard Feed-n-Wax" for conditioning acoustic and electric boards if they are not maple.

Yep,
The Howards stuff is great on Rosewood and Ebony.
Looks and feels nice.
Home Depot sells it down here.

Only for maple boards. Don't bother rubbing it out, it can't be done (player will polish it eventually).

Do a fret dress on the board after finishing and the finish will come off the frets.

Fender necks often have extremely thick poly finish that allows them to buff maple fingerboards but I do not recommend buffing nitro finished maple fingerboard, it will produce uneven result and even cause finish to burn off. You can buff the frets though after dressing, it usually buffs the finish as a consequence.

DO NOT install frets after finishing, do it before finishing. You could crack finishes during the fretting process leading to some really difficult fixes. Fender finishes neck with the frets on.

A little oil after the guitar is done. No finish for me but I always use ebony boards.
