Paul Woolson and I have teamed up to rewrite and offer the old OLF Neck Jig plans we use to have. Paul thought they were not as clearly defined as they could be. So he has rewritten them to be easier to understand and build. What we would like to do before offering them to the OLF is have a few folks beta test them. We know the jig works as written, but we cannot anticipate what questions people might have. We would like to include a step by step. So, if you are interested in building this jig we will supply you with a free set of plans, and a BIG public Thanks for helping develop them. Here is what the jig looks like. You fasten your neck to the jig on the under side, place the body on the top side and the arm will touch the bridge location tilting the neck in to the proper angle. You then lock the neck down and cut your tennon. Pretty sweet actually. If I have not explained it clear enough, maybe Paul will jump in. Hello all. The last batch of drawings left a little (lot) to be desired. I originally modeled the jig in Rhino which is a 3D industrial design program. The guy that was drawing them for Lance didn't have Rhino so we did a lot of talking/explaining/etc over the phone to get the plans accurate. When the plans were originally released, I got a lot of phone calls and emails asking me to explain things. I really couldn't understand why folks were having such issues building this jig, especially if they wanted to build guitars. Then I saw the plans for the first time a few weeks ago...YIKES. Even I had troubles understanding them and I designed the darn thing. I can understand why there was so much confusion. So I re-drew them, along with some subtle design changes, to make it better. I found this process quite difficult as I was trying to anticipate the questions that might be asked and the clarity that would need to be achieved. I asked Lance what he thought about having a couple of folks try them out and build this design from the plans as I have them now. Maybe write down questions, or email me directly about any thoughts as the process goes on. I'll log those thoughts/questions and do my best to make the plans more clear to everyone. I hope this will make a design that is much easier to understand. Thanks, Paul |

Thanks Paul! As of right now we have three folks signed up. One or two more would be great! |

I'll be happy to build it, although I haven't the foggiest idea how it would work from that jpeg. I have a cnc machine, so cutting the parts to spec shouldn't be a problem. BTW I also have Rhino, so you wouldn't need to change the format to Autocad or Solidworks. |

I already made one off the old plans (my mechanical design helped fill in the blanks). If I can make a suggestion just looking at the rendering, the two "blocks" where the angle adjustment are, I know making a triangle makes for practical material cutting but a sharp point like that is bound to take an eye out ![]() Make it "rectangular" in shape with the end a half circle..... It's a great jig!!! Thanks Paul. |

I have a set of the old plans. I am usually really good at reading plans but I did find it difficult. I started a thread here to see if anyone could help but got nothing. I think one of the most helpful things for me would be to have a couple of pictures of the jig with and without a guitar hooked into it so I could physically see what it is supposed to look like. I am very excited that there is a new push to make these plans go. I am a little busy right now to commit to building one but if you still have the need in a couple of weeks let me know. I should be more free. You can definitely count me in on one of the new sets when they are ready! |

I built this one a couple of years back, sure could have used a plan then. I copied it from an L.M.I. video by Robbie O'Brien. |

FWIW: I prefer digital plans. Don't waste the paper or postage. If you don't want to send me the editable CAD files, feel free to send a PDF. Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

At my slow rate of building things, I am probably not a good beta tester. But I did buy the previous plans and agree more instructions and tips would be great. |

I would also be interested if its not too late. I also second the idea of emailing a pdf file, make it easier for everyone I would think. |

Right now we have all the testers needed. My next step is to get the plans printed which including shipping should take a week or so. Ill keep everyone updated in this thread. Once we are happy with the testing and have made any changes ill do a big pre order, after that ill just keep some in stock. |
