Once regular poster Bob Garrish and his partner with Spring Loaded Technology have won a significant prize in a national competition for development of new technology. Hopefully Bob will drop in and give us an update. Congrats Bob.

Curious to know what it might be. I know he got his CNC to do fingerboards in a ridiculous amount of time (short)...

My business partner, Chris Cowper-Smith, and I won the BDC national Young Entrepreneurs Award here in the chilly North. You stay 'young' until 35 in Canada, so I think this might have been my last chance :). The prize was for 100K, which'll definitely help keep the lights on over our employees a bit longer as we prepare to go to market!

I don't mention it here much, but I retired from making guitar parts (and my PhD) two and a half years ago to make bionic knee braces. The power of an exoskeleton in something that fits under your jeans. I've got a couple CNCs now (my retrofitted router, and a Fanuc Robodrill) and work with carbon fiber a lot more than wood, but I still have my stash up on a rack in the shop and give it a look once in awhile expecting someday I'll turn it into a bunch of guitars. About 80% my team plays, so I'm not the only one eager for this return! Never thought about it much, but I suppose there's an awfully good chance I'll be using composite parts in them when I return to building given how much I know about carbon now!

Bob, Congratulations! Its nice to see they had more sense than those Harvard jokers ;)

If you do ever have time to do some guitar brainstorming I would love to see what you come up with. Best of luck with the knee brace!

Bob, that's incredibly wonderful news! Congrats, and well-deserved I'm sure.

Congrats on the award, the knee brace sounds like a great idea - that may have helped me some years ago while I was still pursuing activities like martial arts and horse training on already marginal knees.

They'll help even more in years to come when you're pursuing activities like going down the stairs or picking up grand-kids on marginal knees! It's surprising that our knees last as long as they do, considering what they go through even during basic everyday movements.

[:Y:] That's great to hear. With some support maybe I can nurse those knee joints along and never need to get them replaced.
