I've got 9 coats so far of finish (EM6000, grain filled with StewMac's clear waterbase filler) and am noticing light areas on the front of the heel and the back of the volute. I'm pretty sure it is not residual glue. Perhaps the grain filler did not go deep enough in the pores in these areas? What are your thoughts? |

Any chance that earlier coats haven't cured enough before recoating? See if it clears up in few more days. |

I had this before when using clear water base pore filler. If yours is like mine it is excess pore filler that was not sanded away before applying the finish coats. The finish "wets" the wood differently than the filler so you get the different darknesses. I found that sanding back those areas to the wood and re coating took care of the problem. Now I look very carefully for it after the sealer coat is applied. One more reason finishing can be so "fun". ![]() |

Looks like pore filler to me as well. |

Sure looks like pore filler -- is this the clear Goodfilla or another clear WB that Stew Mac Sells? That is exactly my concern (expressed in a different thread) regarding the requirement for total/complete sand back of water borne fillers. |

Thanks guys. I'll sand those areas back to the wood and recoat, see what happens. (It's the Colortone Clear Grain filler by the way.) |

I had a little of that on my last guitar neck as well using aquacoat clear pore filler. Didn't see any evidence of it on the IR back and sides though, perhaps I was more thorough sanding those flat areas, Mike |
