I was working on an inlay today and glued it in with superglue. It was a tight fit and as I pushed it in, it snapped into place and a drop of superglue squirted up into my eye. Thankfully it must have only been a tiny drop because my eye wasn't glued shut or anything, but I had a very uncomfortable, slightly panicked half hour after that, involving lots of blinking and running water. I had an extremely lucky escape, but it could easily have been much worse. So this is just a reminder that those warnings on the bottle about not getting it in your eyes aren't just for people with IQ's under 50, but can happen to anyone! Take precautions when using it! |

Too be honest, goggles might be better, as liquid can splash up under safety glasses. Could depend on the amount you're using of course. |

I recently opened a bottle of super thin that was packaged at a lower elevation than where I live, it squirted out when I snipped the tip and instantly bonded three of my fingers together, I mean instantly. That was a good reminder, i thought that could have been my eyes. |

I was going to switch to contacts a few years back, but then about that time I noticed how often I had to clean my glasses of tiny splatter spots, and it made me wonder....if I didn't have glasses on, all that spatter would have been in my eye. Working in the healthcare field, some things that spatter can transmit bad things.....so I kept my glasses, and feel good overtime I have to clean them. Same lesson applies here. And yes, I put a face shield on when ever working with 1) harmful chemicals, 2) non-harmful chemicals, and 3) anything that moves faster than me. (sanders, buffers, routers, etc) |

I had a close call with superglue a few years ago; it left a splotch on my glasses when it splattered. Thank goodness I had the glasses on! I use superglue as little as I can nowadays, and when I do use it, I always have on goggles and gloves, and I try really hard to point the container's opening away from me. Fingers glued together is a nuisance, as would be getting it on any other part of my body, but the eye thing freaks me out. |

It's strange it never even occurred to me that I should be wearing goggles while using it. Ah well at least I've learnt my lesson, thankfully with no lasting consequences. |

How about allergic reactions to superglue? I've been doing a bunch of binding and inlays lately with thin (StewMac #10) and I've had huge coughing fits later that evening. Of course I've also mowed the lawn, worked in the garden, sanded rosewood and we have wild fires burning all around us.... |

Many people are allergic to CA. I read somewhere that approximately 10% of us are to different degrees. If I even get one whiff of the stuff, I will have plugged up sinuses for the day. For this reason I avoid using it. |
