I bought a can of Zinsser clear lacquer today. I want to spray it under nitro, and experiment with shellac/wood dust grain filler. I dabbed some on Maple and it dried clear. I shook the can a bunch and then stirred it. The shellac is milky looking. Is this OK, or should I return it? There is no date code on the can. Thanks, Dan |

Take a close look on the label, Dan, and see if you can use this shellac under finish. I'm pretty sure that you can't topcoat over it. Hmm, might have been polyurethane that you couldn't use it under. I had a can of it kicking around, but couldn't find it. Alex |

I bought some of this recently and it looked just like that. I used it on a guitar and it worked just fine, dried clear but added a tint. I liked it. I believe I've heard its best to use dewaxed under a top coat. I could be mistaken though. |

I used to use shellac I found I had much better results using the vinyl sealers the lacquer companies suggested. Finish is about chemistry , adhesion and, prep. It takes more work to make a pretty guitar than it does to make a great sounding one. |

The dewaxed Zinsser Sealcoat has always worked great for me, too. I use it under Mohawk Piano Lacquer these days. |

I used that Shellac 2 coats which I sanded back short of raw wood. Finished over with Tru-oil. No problems Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
