Hi all, I'm planning an all mahogany l-00. I've got a nice set of brazilian mahogany with great tap tone. I'm looking for volume and cut rather than warmth. Am thinking mahogany neck Brw fingerboard and bridge. European spruce for top braces and same for bank braces. Solid linings and side reinforcements. Bracing roughly as per the grellier plan but 12th fret neck joint and two shoulder braces. Options include African blackwood, guatemalan rosewood or ebony fb and bridge or other available woods. Red spruce top bracing Spanish cedar or mahogany back braces Mahogany/maple laminate neck Traditional kerfing and fabric side reinforcements 13th or 14th fret neck joint I played an old l1 at gruhns a couple of years ago, all mahogany, very loud, lots of fundamental and cut, not a lot of overtone. Can't remember if it was a 12 or 14 fretter but probably 12. Anyway. Thats What I'm hunting. Amy tips appreciated. Mike |

I finished a short-scale 12-fret all-mahogany guitar this spring. I went with ebony binding, fret board, and bridge. I used basswood for solid (laminated) linings and lutz spruce for the bracing. This is my tribute to those wonderful small all mahogany guitars from the '30's. 00 sized, 12 fret short scale, spruce braces (probably Sitka). Simple rosette, rosewood headplate, fretboard and bridge. Mahogany binding. Nothing fancy  Bracing is 1/4 inch and fairly heavily scalloped. The guitar is loud and punchy, not very complex but perfect for playing the blues. |

I have always liked the look of a black fretboard and binding with mahogany tops. Mahogany tops have a great sound. I have never made one yet, but the ones that I have played most of the time have mahogany necks. My mother-in-law has a Seagull s6, it sounds amazing and has a maple neck. Its in a satin finish also. I don't know if theres any info on that guitar online, but it sounds great. |

Jointed and thicknessed the top down to 2.6mm. Still feels a little thick and heavy to me at the moment. I don't do deflection tests or anything like that, but it still feels a little way from becoming floppy. I usually take spruce down to where I think taking any more will make it go floppy and also lose tap tone. Any thoughts? |
