I am looking for more information about the types/brands of polyester/polyurethane finish being used out there. we currently spray nitro but i would be interested in knowing what spraying poly would be like |

Have you talked with Joe White? He has been using cat-poly for ages and producing top results. |

I run 2K urethane and conversion varnish. The conversion varnish has become my favorite finish but it can be a bit finicky with regards to temp and humidity. The 2K stuff is more forgiving in that regard but much more expensive. I run a polyester sealer/filler but am not sold on pure polyester finishes as most of the factory guitars with the stuff on are more difficult to buff. Both 2K & CV involve being able to do accurate chemistry which can be difficult in the small quantities we use versus typical industrial application. There are also strict re-coat windows and limits on how thick the final coating can be before problems arise. |
