Ordering them is a different process. Ship from Japan. But so many options! I'm hoping I like these. I ordered 6 of the SGL510. In different color/finishes and buttons. I thought about going with the 1:21 ratio then decided against it. 1:18 is good enough. Would love to play with their adjustable posts and string locking concepts, but just went with standard posts. I went through japarts.com.

You can even call them.

I think it's quite nice to be able to put together tuning machines in a way that matches you vision of the guitar. Gotoh makes that possible. With high quality. And great prices. So many button options!!

Josh from japarts sent me a price list if you'd like to see it.

I have used them for my 510's for the past few years - from Canada their pricing is way below US vendors.
Best to order in advance though - it takes a while from Japan....

Yes, there is an order lag. But you know, I just couldn't go to StewMac or LMI and get the variety I was looking for. Tuners are an important technical and aesthetic device. It's nice know there is a maker out there taking that seriously.

Robbie, have you been happy with the 510's? Ever tried their adjustable posts? String lockers? Just curious.

Mike I love the 510's and have used them on the last 7 guitar with the next 3 all having them.

I ordered the last 3 from japarts.ca (my neck of the woods) and they drop ship from Japan. Josh is very quick to reply.

I do like the 21:1 but some find them to long to tune up....

Don't forget to, you can get most of the same colour type in strap buttons too from Gotoh...makes it all look the same. Now I wish they made a standard pick up jack button in all the matching colours.

Hey Mike, I absolutely love the 510's.
Every player who has played my guitars have commented on the tuners.
I always go for the 21:1 for that super-fine tuning.
I have only gone for the standard Cosmo black on black; have never had a reason to check out the locking tuners or adjustable posts...

Agreed about Josh, great service!

Mike, the domain Japarts.com is incorrect, should be japarts.ca.

I've used them around 5 times now and I don't like them....

Here's why: 18:1 and 21:1 is not at all necessary and even 16:1 can be more precise than I am.... I have to restring hundreds of instruments annually, possibly more than a thousand...., and the slow ratio runs down my drill battery, takes forever to get the dang things tuned, and as such sucks my time when I have other things to do.

They do look cool, the quality seems good IME, and the pricing is pretty OK too. My beef is the ratio and the 21:1 is the worst of all. I've also wondered why they, Gotoh, originally called the 21:1 "Bluegrass" which is rather ironic when the Bluegrass guys (and women) who I know benefit from rapid response tuners as much as anyone.

I went with 18:1. Decided 21:1 was overkill. What I was trying to point was the incredible variety in finishes and buttons. They also have 16:1, 14:1, .... In fact, I'll bet their variety would be off putting to some. But l like the variety. If there is something mechanically wrong with them, then point it out

Good choice! As a player, I use a Snark, which gets me close. Once close, the ability to make the final adjustment by ear depends heavily on ratio. 14:1 are too coarse and not usable. 16:1 still require micro adjustments but can be used just fine. 18:1 is the sweet spot where you have fine control to zero in without overkill. 21:1 - pointless unless you have a compensated nut and saddle and a stroboscopic tuner plus your own personal guitar tech to tune and change strings for you.

14:1 came on a student grade Cordoba classical I bought - that thing is a nightmare to tune. It makes me think the word "firewood" everytime I have to tune it.
