Doing a segmented rosette, with purfling surrounding it on both sides. My pieces are really snug and well-fit as they are. I'd like to just leave them be, and wick some glue around the three pieces.

I'm not sure if hide glue will wick down sufficiently to set the wood rosette, along with the purfling. Maybe if I dilute it with more water (??)

CA glue might be my best bet, which brings me to my question: Can anyone say whether or not CA discolors WRC, the way it does with spruce? I can coat it with a couple more coats of shellac, if that will do the trick, but I've had CA wick into spruce in spite of a coat or two of shellac.

Recommendations?
TIA,
Ken

It will stain cedar by making the grain lines it wicks up darker, doesn't make the yellow staining as in spruce. As long as you've sealed the channel before installing the rosette you'll be fine using CA.

Rod, thanks so much for the reply. Now I know what the options are for WRC, and what to expect.

In the end, I went with the former method. There were some tiny gaps that I wanted filled, and the hide glue both seeped down and filled those nicely, after a bit of swelling.

Good to have multiple options :)

Happy building to everyone in 2016!
Ken
