From the other nut thread someone mentioned brass nuts, but what about brass saddle? It will probably be a bit hard to shape but perhaps it will really improve sound |

There's a reason bone is the standard.... Brass offers a distinct sound that personally is not an improvement in any way. It's far to metallic and "tinny" to my ear. Makes the highs sound "higher" and the lows less "bassy"..... I know I'm not describing the tone well but it just doesn't work for my taste. Brass it very easy to work so that's not an issue. |

Have not tried brass but did use aluminum. Got the results as described by Rod. It hit the trash file shortly afterwards. Considered brass but thought it was too heavy. As said bone is the standard and with good reason. Tom |

Brass is a tone sink. People assume brass is going to be great for sound I guess since bells and chimes are made of it. In reality you can make a bell out of steel and it'll do the same thing. Brass is just prettier. I have found brass nuts to thin the sound. No where as rich sounding as bone or even plastic for that matter. On an electric it is less noticeable because an amps EQ and drive can overcome those limits. Just my opinions. Sent from my HTC Desire 626s using Tapatalk |

I watched a video about Carlos Santana's primary guitars and they were specially built by PRS with brass inserts in a conventional appearing nut! His guitars also had, although this had to change for international touring, solid BRW necks with the fret board and neck all being one solid stick of BRW! I'm not a fan of brass nuts or saddles but no one can say that Carlos has a tinny tone. |
