I've just been given a 6 piece Koa set that I'm excited to build with, but have no experience with Koa-topped guitars. I'd be interested in hearing some opinions on (1) what style of guitars are best suited for hardwood tops, and (2) what build processes, bracing pattern and timber, top thickness etc. yield the best results. Any suggestions or discussion would be really appreciated. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Well, here's one I did when asked to build a koa guitar. Is the surf up today? |

Here's one I did about 7 years ago. It was a gift for my mother-in-law, she played Keola Beemer slack key stuff. The funny thing is it took about 4-5 years before it started to sound good. Now its one of my better efforts tone-wise. Attachment: Koa1.jpg The Koa set came from LMI and is a "sister set", the front and back are sequential sets- Attachment: Koa4.jpg Before anyone starts to accuse me of stealing John Grimes' design, I contacted him and asked beforehand. He said "go ahead, enjoy" Super Nice Guy!! Attachment: Koa3.jpg
