Home Depot is clearancing out their Makita XPH01 18V cordless drill. Comes with one battery and a 25 minute fast charge base unit. LED light. 1/2" chuck. I bought 2. They are not advertising this, in store only. 3yr warranty with online reg.

Edit: $69. Normal is $129

Any luck? These slightly smaller body drills offer better balance and lower weight. Perfect for the in-close kind of work we do. I like my original Makita, but it's a beast and always seemed dangerous to have it near my work.

I won't be able to be near a HD until later this week but plan on trying to pick one or two of these up.

The Stew-Mac excellent reamer for enlarging end jack holes to the proper size 15/32" and not.... 1/2" needs a 1/2" chuck and these will do that.

Thanks for the tip Mike!

15/32" reamer? Have to get one of those. My 1/2" is a pain because it's too big. Thanks

Edit: the $70 one?

Yes the Stew-Mac one which is one of the very best tools and values that Stew-Mac offers IME. It has flats at 15/32" making it perfect for jack installation.

Ever notice how many end jacks that we will encounter that are loose or on the way to being loose? Part of the reason is people make a 1/2" hole and even the pup manufactures suggest the 1/2" hole because no one is going to have a 15/32 bit or reamer or many won't and they don't want that to impact product sales. Some pup manufacturers want installation to be easy. To bad they also don't want it done well.........

The oversized hole permits the jack to start to move around and then it comes loose. There is another common reason for jacks coming loose too having to do with how the mechanism snugs up and when both the hole size and the other reason are addressed and both are super easy things to do I've had jacks stay in place for years and they are still kicking.

The SM reamer is financial a pain for hobbyists to purchase because of the cost but for those of us in the business it's essential AND the only one like it available as far as I know. It's also very well made and ours have stayed sharp for hundreds of uses.

Anyway it takes a 1/2" chuck that's why I brought it up, sorry Mike for the high-jack.

No, that's quite OK. I was just thinking it was ironic. A reamer costing $70 and all of that. :)

I'll buy it too.

Mike

Got one here. The ones here look like they may all be refurbs, but they do have the full warranty.

Well my HD in Bellevue didn't have that drill on clearance. I know they are nice too because I've been borrowing my buddy's with the matching impact driver for my shop remodel and they help you get a LOT of work done!

They did however have a lot of nice Milwaukee and Dewalt drill bits on clearance for around 75% off. I picked up a 15/32 and a 12" 5/16 for $2.5.

Has anyone seen that drill at any of the other HD's around Seattle?

Refurbished? How did you know? There was no such indication on the two I bought

They had various attached stickers on them. They may simply be units that had been returned to the store for whatever reason as well. At any rate, I'll drill some holes this weekend and see how things go!

Nope, not at my HD either. Guess it wasn't such a mistake to buy the Dewalt. Check the lumber bin, Mike. With your luck they are going to have some beautiful figured 8/4 walnut labeled "dark hardwood".

I'm sorry guys. I was hoping against hope. This was clearly an end of deal opportunity. I just lucked out and was hoping you'd find some too.

If it's any help, the way I find these deals is on Sawmill Creek. For $6 a year, you get access to the classifieds and the deals forums. Sawmill Creek is a huge forum so people all over the country post these things. I equipped much of my shop this way.

I also use the classifieds on this forum. Hope everyone supports that! One of my coolest finds on this forum was my treasured Bishop Cochran Router base. Love it!! Awesome $12 investment. Invest in your passion, it pays dividends.

I checked at our store. They sold the last one on Friday. The store clerk told me it was a buy for Black Friday that they had been discounting every other week since then and this deal moved them out the door. Good find, Mike!
