Bought a bench tuner, Peterson StroboPlus HD Strobe Tuner several weeks ago as several guitars were coming in for intonation and my hearing's not getting any better. I was reasonably impressed with it. But strobe display time with the microphone was relatively short, and strobe rotation didn't settle as well as I hoped it would. Tried a contact mic to see if there was any improvement (although advertising says it's mainly to help with background noise at venues) The Peterson one is a bit expensive in UK, so for half that price I tried a Korg CM-200 "Improved Design" Contact Microphone (wider grip for headstocks) It makes a big difference to the length of time the strobe display continues, also seeming to make the display significantly more stable. AND I can still have the radio on while I'm working!! |

Colin-- I'm old enough to have purchased a Conn Strobotuner back in the day. It still works, and I still use it for serious fine tuning. I've had the same experience, and I employed the same solution. A clip-on contact mic is the way to go. |
