Pat, that's a really cool idea! I love the G&G style, and am slowly incorporating some of that design aesthetic into my house. I've done several sconces and some furniture in the same style (some are reproductions of original pieces).

The bridge you did really works for me. I have to wonder if a non-round sound hole could work, that might present some interesting ideas -- like picking up on the design from the pierced side of the Thorsen plant stand/side table?

All of my sound holes are non-round. They work just fine.

Joe, the table works for me. I thought about a non-round soundhole, but decided I was already in pretty deep, so I went conventional. Could have gotten real interesting, though.

Just finished up another white oak and yellow pine top barnwood guitar. I take photo's, do a recording, and file it away. Ships off tomorrow.

Making a new neck block to replace the one I glued in upside down (Doh! [headinwall] [headinwall] [headinwall] ) and had to destroy to remove it without damaging the sides. When gluing the block in, I was paying too much attention to the new clamping setup and missed the orientation. Funny thing is, I had this slight nagging feeling that something wasn't quite right. In the past when I've had that feeling, I've stopped and looked things over carefully to see why. This time, I ignored it and forged ahead. Lesson learned, hopefully.

Good luck Steve!
Even on a flat-top electric, cutting the channel is scary.

I'm looking to close the box on this one tomorrow. I think this qualifies as landscape figuring. I see a lake or possibly a bay in the foreground and cloud banks or mountains in the background. Looks like ripples expanding outward after someone just tossed a stone into the water.

Ripple in still water......

I think I'll go with a narrow end graft on this one.

I'm a hack but I'd go minimalist. To paraphrase James Krenov, wood like that doesn't grow on trees! Very nice! [:Y:]

Well, the top for my Greene & Greene guitar was a bust during Chladni testing, and I wasn't 100% pleased with the rosette as a representation of G&G, so I did another top. This one has ebony "links" standing a bit proud. This one got me what I was after.
Attachment:

Here's the neck ebony "pins" inlaid. In true G&G fashion, they would stand proud like the links on the top, but these are flush.

Here's the cloud lift I put on the headstock, with one of the tuners.

The tail graft with abalone inlays. The fretboard markers are also ab.

Bindings today.

Really nicely put together Pat, I like everything about it.

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

Pat, beautiful work and thoughtful design elements without being gaudy. Not my style, but I have to say it's lovely!
Butt joint is exceptional...
